Current and Projected Projects

General

Bouygues has won construction projects for the Tunis City of Science, a science and technology institute, and various housing projects throughout Tunis. The company also won a contract to complete the proposed Tunis headquarters of the Arab League, unfinished since the league moved back to Cairo, which is now slated to become the Tunisian broadcasting center.

General Electric won a project to build the first privately-owned power station in Tunisia, to be located in the Tunis suburb or Rades. It is due for completion in 2000.

Franchising

Franchising is new to Tunisia. The first major fast food chain to open a store came to Tunis in 1994. An American hardware chain is scheduled to open a local franchise in 1996. There is growing interest in franchising and many Tunisian entrepreneurs are seeking contacts with foreign franchisers.
