El gobierno de Hamas en la Franja de Gaza, dirigido por el Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, ha anunciado la concesión de ayudas a los residentes de Gaza en el comienzo del mes sagrado de Ramadán..
El gobierno dijo que concederá ayudas especiales de $ 100 dólares a cada empleado o desempleados que figuran en los archivos del Ministerio de Trabajo de la Franja.
Además, el gobierno anunció que dará ayuda por valor de $ 50 en el valor de productos alimenticios a 78.000 familias en la Franja.
El Ministro de Trabajo de Hamas, Ahmad al-Kurd, dijo que el gobierno iniciará su iniciativa en la primera semana de Ramadán, con más de 12.000 familias pobres que recibirán ayuda en la primera fase del plan.
Según datos de la Autoridad Palestina, la Franja de Gaza tiene una tasa de desempleo del 50%.
Los palestinos adjudican esto al sitio impuesto en la Franja por Israel y Egipto como la principal razón de la alta tasa.
Antes de que el bloqueo se inició en junio de 2006, unas 35.000 personas estaban empleadas en la rama industrial de la Franja. En la actualidad, el número de estos trabajadores no supera los 1.200.
Los habitantes de Gaza dicen que el 95% de las fábricas industriales de la Franja han cerrado en los últimos tres años.

The Hamas government in the Gaza Strip, headed by Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, has announced that it will be granting aid to Gaza residents with the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which began on Friday.
The government said it will grant special holiday aid in the amount of $100 to every employed and unemployed Gazan listed in the Strip's Labor Ministry files.
In addition, the government announced it will give aid in the amount of $50 worth of food products to 78,000 families in the Strip.
Hamas Labor Minister Ahmad al-Kurd said the government will start its initiative in the first week of Ramadan, with some 12,000 poverty-stricken families receiving aid in the first phase of the plan.
According to Palestinian Authority data, the Gaza Strip has an unemployment rate of 50%.
Palestinians name the siege imposed on the Strip by both Israel and Egypt as the main reason for the high rate.
Before the blockage began in June 2006, some 35,000 people were employed in the Strip's industrial branch. Currently, these workers number no more than 1,200.
Gazans say 95% of the Strip's industrial factories have been shut down in the past three years.
